Japan has a 5-tiered pagoda that's a replica of a pagoda in the 8th century Horyuji Temple.
Each layer represents one of the five primary elements that Buddhist’s believe all things are created from: earth, water, fire, wind and sky.
The original temple is believed to be one of the two oldest wooden buildings in the world.
Gardens:
Japanese culture is full of symbolism. The gardens in Japan feature rocks, which symbolize the ancient earth; and water which symbolizes the life-giving sea; as well as native Japanese plants.
