Telephone Tips - Cells and Mobiles
Roaming
If you plan to take your cell (mobile) phone with you to Florida, call your cell company before you go and ask them for recommendations.  You should be able to purchase a package that will save you paying minute-by-minute roaming charges in Florida.

You can add the roaming package before you go and have it removed when you return. This will save you a lot of money if you use your phone frequently.

If you don't have a flat rate roaming package, you'll pay to use a US carrier per minute - plus your long distance charges.

Alternately, British visitors can rent cell phones .

Snowbirds who will be in Florida for more than a few weeks might consider purchasing "throw away" phones with local telephone numbers.

Use Your Phone's Memory

Cell phones really come in handy because they can store contact information for all your friends, relatives and business associates from home. Don't forget to program these numbers before you go:

  • Hotel or resort - include your confirmation number

  • Car rental company - include your confirmation number

  • Taxi/limousine service at home

  • Taxi/limousine service at destination

  • Emergency numbers

  • Insurance company's Hotline

  • Lost or stolen credit card number

  • House sitter's cell number

  • Email addresses for people you want to send e-postcards to
