The river may not be as wide as the Mighty Mississippi, but the raft ride is fun all the same. (It can get pretty crowded though.)
Tom Sawyer Island is a great spot for families to explore. There are paths, a fort, a cave and lots of other places for young kids to run and play.
Trivia
The fort on the Island is named Fort Sam Clemens. Who is it named after?
Answer: Samuel Clemens is the real name of writer Mark Twain, the author of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.
“Mark twain” is a phrase that Mississippi boatmen would shout when the river depth was 2 fathoms, (the minimum needed for the paddle wheelers to pass safely.) Samuel Clemens used that phrase as his pen name.
